Top Secret Tobaccos Re-emerge in Drew Estate Cigars

kentucky fire curedDrew Estate may be on to something with their latest release – Kentucky Fire Cured, an extension of the popular MUWAT (My Uzi Weighs a Ton). This line features ‘fire cured’ tobacco – a very difficult tobacco to blend – that has been around for over 200 years but is not often used in cigar blending. It is the cigar industry’s Top Secret tobacco. Today, it is typically found in pipe and chewing tobacco. The MUWAT Kentucky Fire Cured uses these fire-cured leaves in the wrapper as well as limited amounts as part of the filler.

The tobacco gets its name from the wood-fire curing process used to give it potent, rich flavors of wood and smoke. The tobacco is hung in sealed barns and subjected to high heat. Over a series of days, the tobaccos go through a gradual increase that sets in flavor and leaches out moisture.
