Tröegs Brewing in Hershey, PA is known for awesome brewskies, including Hopback, Perpetual IPA, The Scratch Series, and of course Mad Elf. The new champion among these great beers is this imperial red/amber ale that packs a solid hop punch – Nugget Nectar Imperial Red Ale – a real hopfest for those hopheads out there. It starts with the same base ingredients of their flagship HopBack Amber Ale, but Nugget Nectar intensifies the malt and hop flavors to create an explosive hop experience.
As soon as I popped the cap I was hit immediately with an ultra-refreshing aroma of peach. After taking in the amorous aroma for a few minutes, I pried the bottle from my nose and gently poured it into a snifter creating a tall, fluffy, long lasting white head – just as I expected. The hue was a gorgeous reddish amber that is just perfect.
I didn’t want to disturb the beautiful picturesque glass inundated with such beauty, but I convinced myself that I bought her to drink, so done the hatch she went. A strong hoppy bite from the get go but it balanced out nicely with complex flavors of citrus, piney hops, caramel malt, ripe fruit and unique floral notes that lasted through the finish like the taste of a sensual mistress. It left me longing for me. So I guzzled the remainder until the very last drop slid down my throat and deposited itself in my ultra-satisfied gullet. What an awesome beer. The aroma is great and the taste is even better, an all-around awesome beer. The perfect full-bodied brew.
This beer is seasonal ale that is very hard to get your hands on. It seems to fly off the shelves in no time. I happened to get my hands on a case of liquid gold because I made friends with the ‘beer guy’ at my local liquor store so he knows to save me a case each year when it comes in.
You have to believe me on this one. This is the perfect beer. But apparently the secret is out and I’m not the only one who loves it. So good luck getting your hands on some, but when you do, run to the register before someone tries to snatch it out of your hands. Cheers…
This brew will pair perfectly with a nice mild – medium bodied cigar. Perhaps a tasty Alec Bradley Connecticut or Macanudo Hyde Park would do the trick.
