Fewer than 500 of these “unicorn blend” bundles remain after private sale event
EASTON, PA–(Marketwired – October 24, 2016) – After 2 years, Cigar Dojo and Espinosa Premium Cigars released the sequel to their Sarsaparilla cigar collaboration to a “members-only” sale; as of October 21st, Sensei’s Sensational Sarsaparilla II has finally been made available to the general cigar smoking public, exclusively through Famous Smoke Shop.
Hand crafted as a private offering for the Cigar Dojo community, the supply of Sarsaparilla II cigars is extremely limited: only a thousand bundles – 10,000 cigars, in total – were rolled by hand at the La Zona factory in Esteli, Nicaragua for this project. Less than half of the total supply now remains after the Dojo’s closed-doors sale, and according to Erik Espinosa, President of Espinosa Premium Cigars, “when they’re gone, they’re gone. My rollers aren’t making any more.”
Sensei’s Sensational Sarsaparilla II cigars feature a unique and unusual flavor profile: reviewers have detected tastes of mint, chocolate and licorice, combined with the essence of sarsaparilla and punctuated with a savory note supplied by the San Andres wrapper. The just-released blend of tobaccos mirrors the recipe of the first Sarsaparilla, but the new size is said to be what makes the difference. “The original Sarsaparilla is one of my favorite cigars. We’re begged by folks to re-release it constantly,” said Eric Guttormson, “Master Sensei” of Cigar Dojo. “But we didn’t want to simply remake the original, we wanted the update to be a unique experience. The new, bigger size seems to be an even better fit for the blend – as a Toro, it highlights Espinosa’s unique tobaccos even more than before.”
The original Sarsaparilla cigar was a 5½” x 52 belicoso, and debuted to overwhelmingly positive reviews in the fall of 2014. Limited in supply, it quickly became a cult classic among Cigar Dojo members. According to Guttormson, this was a cigar that “moved the demand needle like few others…all 1,000 bundles that were made at La Zona went within 30 days. We thought that was it. Then, in early 2016, Espinosa discovered an extra 40 bundles of the initial Sarsaparillas that were ‘lost’ in storage at La Zona. So we were faced with a tough decision: keep them to enjoy ourselves, or offer them up to the general public. We opted to send them to Famous Smoke, who sold them out within minutes.”
As with the original release, Famous Smoke Shop was selected to carry Sarsaparilla II exclusively – and like last time, more than half of the run was spoken for within the first 48 hours of being available for sale.
Sensei’s Sensational Sarsaparilla II features a proprietary blend of tobaccos crafted exclusively for this release, clad in a Mexico-grown San Andrés wrapper; the cigar is available in one, and only one, vitola – a 6″ × 50 Toro that retails for $89.99 per bundle of 10 cigars.
The new Sarsaparilla II is again packaged in 10-count bundles, with gold foil added to the band and packaging to distinguish it from the original.
